A week with the silver screen and fellow filmmakers. My time spent surrounded by people who are just as passionate about making art as I am, was nothing but incredible. Sometimes the idea of going into the film industry looks daunting but this experience allowed me to see how far passion truly goes. Each day I spent time scheduling my days full of films, talks, and ways to grow connections.
I love film, making it, watching it, really being any part of the process. I think what I really loved about my time at TIFF was seeing how it really is possible. Whether you are a filmmaker, writer, or event coordinator, there is a place in the industry for everyone, and it wouldn’t be the same without them. I am truly honored to learn from everyone here at MSU, my professors, peers, and alumni. It is about connections and building bridges. I have always been fascinated by film festivals. The process of putting them together and organizing is something I would love to do in the future since I love to plan events. Attending one has been a dream of mine and has clarified that this could be a potential path for me in the future.
The atmosphere around film festivals, like TIFF, is precious and incredible. I loved walking around Toronto surrounded by so much talent at every turn. What I love most is being in a room with creative people. TIFF was one big melting pot of creativity and talent from all facets. Whether it be from the person who was behind the camera, in front of it, or even to the side managing or directing. I am so inspired by the whole process. How passion can really result in dreams coming true.

I think my favorite part was watching the film Obsession and it left a lasting impact on me to this day. Seeing this film at its premiere and after its screening three major companies were in a bidding war and it was ultimately bought by Focus Features and will hopefully be distributed. It was not only incredible to be part of some of the first people to see the film, but it was inspiring to see the process of films making it big just from one night. That sums up the artistic world, it is all about passion, determination, and who you surround yourself with, keep putting yourself out there and one fateful night your art will reach the right audience. And it’s all thanks to festivals and events that honor and celebrate creations. I am so thankful that Michigan State University provides this opportunity to students like me who want to see the future of film.
